So as of yesterday, I am signed up to complete an Ironman Indoor Triathlon! I have no doubt that it is easier to complete an indoor triathlon but I'm sure it will still be challenging.
So here's the low down - I will swim laps for 10 minutes, bike for 30 minutes and run for 20 minutes. All seems easy right? Yea, that's what I thought as well until I got in the pool to swim laps yesterday with the Mr. Swimming has become much harder the older I have gotten! I remember swimming the day away as a kid and never being tired or ready for a nap as soon as I crawled out of the pool, lol. I attempted to swim the majority of the 10 minutes with a regular stroke - a breast stroke I believe it what it is called. Again, so hard! I had to keep changing the way I was swimming, so I would flip over and swim/float on my back and then I would swim underwater for a while and then again, swim over....
Needless to say, I will need to practice on the swimming part the most :)
I biked for 10 minutes yesterday instead of 30 and only made it about 2.49 miles. Not bad but it could be much better. The winner last year biked almost 12 miles in 30 minutes - I need to do at least that in order to have any chance of placing. The winner also had 27 laps in the 10 minutes for swimming - I don't know if I will be able to achieve that but I do have plenty of time to practice so we shall see.
Running....I love running and I love running in races but I don't run in races to win. I run in races because it is fun and I love the social aspect of it. The winner last year, ran 2.7 miles in 20 minutes, that is easily .7 miles further in those 20 minutes than in my normal run. Now I'm sure I will push myself like crazy that day since I know the more distance, the more points, the better chance at winning.
I have no issues not winning but I would like to give it my all and truly try to place in some aspect. I believe that if I use the above guidelines from the last winner that I could have a great shot at winning the Ironman Indoor Tri.
If you want to sign up you can go to www.indoortri.com and see if there are any LifeTime Fitness locations near you. There is a limit of 100 participants per location and I noticed that several locations have already sold out! You do not need to be a member of LifeTime Fitness to participate either which is really great for the community.
I have just 2 days shy of a full 3 months to really train and strengthen for this and I'm soooo excited to see how it all works!!
Now, if only I could get the Mr. to sign up with me :)
